Ok one other thing about Starbucks i forgot to mention earlier is another way they attract their customers-Wifi service =). Everytime you walk into a starbucks outlet, other than coffee and cakes what else do you see? laptops! of course! This is one of the major reasons people go to starbucks besides their delicious coffee and cakes. Students, business people, professionals, and many others love to bring their laptops to starbucks to have an enjoyable and relaxing experience with their work, while working, they can order a cup of hot, delicious coffee and their working experience will be much, much better compared to working at home =). They can also make use of the wifi service that starbucks provide for free to surf the web, for conference calls, social networking and many other things including fun stuff like online gaming and youtube streaming. Nowadays, students especially, their favourite hang out or place to have meetings would be none other than starbucks, because they can not only have fun, but also get their assignments done. All in all, a wonderful place for work, and fun =)
So recently i went to starbucks again guess what? I got the new stamp card =) this new stamp card that they are having now is so much better than the previous one. last time the only option was to collect 7 stamps and receive a tall sized beverage from starbucks for free. This time they have 12 spots to stamp on. When u collect all 12 you are entitled to get a free starbucks merchandise with this new option the previous option is still available with the 7 stamps and tall beverage. I love these stamp cards. They are a good way of keeping customers and making them come back everytime and in the end we get a free beverage. not bad right? =)
Now besides coffee, Starbucks is also famous for their delicious cakes. they have a variety of cakes available for their customers like the marble cheesecake, the rocky road and many others, they also sell sandwiches, muffins and also an assortment of different buns. my favorite among these is the rocky road and marble cheese cakes. they are simply DELICIOUS!!!! the rocky road is rich in chocolate and topped with two tiny marshmellows on top..yummy!!. the marble cheese cake on the other hand is topped with a thick layer of cheese and below it is fudge, both cakes are priced at 8.80 per piece. isn't it worth it? wow imagine the taste, the deliciousness... the softness of the cakes and the chocolate that will melt in your mouth when you eat it...i really love the cakes!! =) and i will definitely find a time to eat them again...
Of all coffee drinks starbucks offer, the caramel frappucino is my favourite, i love it for its taste and also because it is very cold and soothing to drink. the caramel is sweet but not too sweet and blended together with whipped cream on top. it is really blissful to drink it on a hot day or an exhausting and tiresome day. =) i remember once after distributing questionaires and feeling totally exhausted i decided to go treat myself my favourite drink =) after taking one nice gulp of it, i immediately felt soothed. the cold drink slowly went down my throat and calmed me down and relaxed me. i really love the drink and would recommend it to anyone who's a fan of starbucks too. i dont think any other coffee house offers a drink as delicious as this =) certainly a nice drink.
Well i'm still reading the book about starbucks i bought and found out some interesting facts about the coffee giant about how it got it's name and logo. The company is named in part after Starbuck, Captain Ahab's first mate in the book "Moby-Dick", as well as a turn-of-the-century mining camp (Starbo or Storbo) on Mount Rainier. According to Howard Schultz's book "Pour Your Heart Into It: How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time, the name of the company was derived from Moby-Dick, altough not in as direct a fashion as many assume. Gordon Bowker liked the name "Pequod" (the ship in the novel), but his then creative partner Terry Heckler responded, "No one's going to drink a cup of Pee-quod!" Heckler suggested "Starbo". Brainstorming with these two ideas resulted in the company being named for the the Pequod's first mate, Starbuck
Valerie O'Niel, a Starbucks spokeswoman, said that the logo is an image of a "twin-tailed siren" (the siren of Greek mythology). The logo has been significantly streamlined over the years. In the 1st version, which gave the impression of an authentic 15th century European woodcut, the Starbucks siren was topless and had a fully visible double fish tail. The image also had a rough visual texture. In the 2ndversion, which was used from 1987-92, her breasts were covered by her flowing hair, but her navel was still visible, and the fish tail was cropped slightly. In the current version, used since 1992, her navel and breasts are not visible at all, and only vestigesremain of the fish tails. The original "woodcut" logo can still be seen on the Starbucksstore in Seattle's Pike Place Market, and on both the House Blend and Decaf House Blend packaging.
At the beginning of September 2006 and then again in early 2008, Starbucks temporarily reintroduced it's original brown logo on paper hot drink cups. Starbucks has stated that this was done to show the company's heritage from the Pacific Northwest and to celebrate 35 years of business. The vintage logo sparked some controversy due in part of the siren's bare breasts, but the temporary switch garnered little attention form the media. Starbucks had drawn similar criticism when they reintroduced the vintage logo in 2006.
Recently i read an article about the partnership between Apple.inc and Starbucks. What i read was that Starbucks partnered with Apple to collaborate on selling music as part of the "coffee house experience". In October 2006, Apple added a Starbucks Entertainment area to the iTunes Store, selling music similar to that played in Starbucks stores. In September 2007, Apple announced that there would be wireless communication between the iTunes Store and Starbucks via AT&T with no requirement to be an AT&T subscriber, targeted at iPhone, iPod Touch and Macbook users. The iTunes store will automatically detect recent songs playing in a Starbucks and offer users the opportunity to download the tracks. This feature has been rolled out in Seattle, New York City, and the San Francisco Bay Area, and was offered to limited markets during 2007-2008. During the fall of 2007, Starbucks also began to sell digital downloads of certain albums through iTunes. Starbucks gave away 37 different songs for free download through iTunes as part of the 'Song of the Day' promotion in 2007, and a 'Pick of the Week' card is now available at Starbucks for a free download. I feel that this is a very good plan by Starbucks and Apple, coffee drinkers of Starbucks can now bring the experience home or anywhere they go and Apple also has a chance to advertise themselves and get some profit.
From what I experienced every time I visit Starbucks coffee houses, other than the comfortable environment and delicious coffee, another thing I love about Starbucks is their ever friendly, efficient and sociable staff. They are very polite, friendly, and welcoming; they would greet you when you step in the coffee house and they would ask you politely what your order would be for the day, besides that if you are still deciding, they would just wait patiently until you have made up your mind. I find these qualities rare in other places, very, very rare. I think that this is a quality that is unique for Starbucks, this is a very good way to get customers to keep on coming over n over again, and customers will feel welcome, warm, and comfortable. This quality of Starbucks can be found in every Starbucks coffee house. That day I decided to head to Starbucks in Dataran Pahlawan shopping complex in Malacca and it was the same there, the staffs were very friendly, entertaining and welcoming. I totally enjoy my visits to Starbucks coffee houses. =)
Recently I read a book on Starbucks called "Starbucked" by author Taylor Clark. The book tells about how Starbucks started out to be a small coffee shop and finally becoming the most popular coffee shop all around the world. The book also tells about what strategy plans and risks Starbucks took in order to achieve what they have achieved today. I remember one particular story about how Starbucks solved their business problem by coming up with an at first seemed crazy but later turned out to be an amazing and successful plan. During the early days of Starbucks, there was once where they were broke and they still had their rent to pay. So, the boss came up with an ingenious idea. Guess what he did? he actually opened up another Starbucks coffee house just directly opposite the original coffee house. People would think, "is he crazy?". But he did this with a motive. Why did he open 2 Starbucks coffee houses directly opposite each other? 1st reason was to provide convenience to their customers. For example, people traveling from this side of the street can conveniently visit the coffee house at that side while customers traveling from the other side of the street can visit the other. 2nd reason was to attract different kinds of customers. the 1st coffee house seemed to attract high class customers and hence that coffee house' atmosphere was more professional looking, while the other was to attract more casual customers, that coffee house was build in a very comfortable fashion where people can sit down, enjoy their coffee and socialize. I feel that this is a very ingenious idea that helped propelled Starbucks to stardom. This move by Starbucks have given me the inspiration to take risks and believe in myself in whatever I do.
As all Starbucks coffee drinkers know, Starbucks comes out with new and beautiful planners every year. I have the 2008 as well as the 2009 planner. Both have been my favorite planners I have ever bought. Inside the planner, besides the usual calenders and pages for notes, Starbucks included beautiful and simple illustrations of their coffee houses, Starbucks, Malaysia's birthday is also marked down on the planners which is in 17th December. From my personal experience, Starbucks is a really comfortable place not only for drinking a cup of delicious coffee. It is also an excellent place to socialize with different people, even the occasional foreigners. From socializing, we get to know more about people around us and people from other countries. Besides coffee, people go there to get connected. I personally remember that at one time, Starbucks had this Coffee Passport for their coffee drinkers. It was for them to record down each and every one of their coffee drinking experiences, not only locally, but also abroad. In the passport, they had some information on certain countries on how they roast their coffee and how it would taste, it also has information on different styles of roasting, for example, Espresso Roast, Italian Roast, French Roast and a few others. The passport has a small box for you to write down how the coffee tastes in that particular region. I find this passport interesting and fun for coffee drinkers. A very good strategy of Starbucks to get and stay connected with their coffee drinkers....
Today, all around the world, we can see uncountable coffee houses around, but few have really made it to the top with satisfying, good roasted coffee. We have a few well known coffee houses that we see daily, Coffee Bean, Gloria Jean's Coffee, and many more. Of all of these famous coffee houses, only one, stands tall and firm among them, Starbucks...with their comfortable atmosphere and staff, and of course their cozy plush seats that causes consumers to want to stay there with their coffee a little longer, and finally...their ever famous coffees which makes people come back and back again for more...
The reason i chose starbucks is because of so many companies, i can really see starbucks rise to stardom in a really effective way, from their ideas to their marketing plan and strategy, i get very inspired by them. This is why i chose Starbucks as my product. Thank You...
